RESOURCES

Now you can tell this is a baby web site since this section is a work-in-progress. From time-to-time we will come across very helpful resources such as books, videos, and programming ideas related to the dimensions of development. Our list right now doesn't amount to much since we are just getting started. But we anticipate it will grow and change. Here's the scoop. We welcome any items on your HOTLIST of resources. Send them to Tim to review for inclusion on the site. We should add that a resource may be recommended even if we don't agree with everything proposed by the authors. It may be that we think it offers an appropriate stimulus for values clarification--a chance to consider, challenge, and change or confirm our current beliefs and behaviors. We're not looking for a huge list. We really want HOTSTUFF!!!

Now, just click on one or more of the spokes of the wheel graphic and see what's available to support your efforts with student development along each dimension, respectively.

INTELLECTUAL

- Hmmmmm. We'll have to think about this one

LIFE PLANNING

- Sorry. We're still looking (and planning our careers).

SOCIAL

- Oops. Nothing at the moment. Attending a party!

PHYSICAL

- Now this one we really believe in - see Authors "On the Fun Side".

EMOTIONAL

- Aha! We finally have a resource to recommend!

Stress Management for Wellness, Fourth Edition (1998) published by Harcourt College Publishers. Author: Walt Schafer, Ph.D. Professor of Sociology and Acting Dean, College of Social and Behavioral Science, California State University--Chico, California. Email address:

wschafer@oavax.csuchico.edu.

This text (525 pages) is a practical guide including many strategies for dealing with stress and emotions. The primary text also has a companion workbook (175 pages) co-authored by Walt Schafer and Sharrie Herbold.

SEXUAL

- This is a hot topic. But don't forget, it also includes gender issues.

CULTURAL

- This unusual dimension includes both ethnicity and the arts. We looking for dynamic resources that can deal with each one separately. But we are especially interested in those that show the relationship between the two.

SPIRITUAL

- We're still working on this dimension also.

POLITICAL

- Here's a good one!

Exploring Leadership: For college students who want to make a difference (1998) published by Jossey-Bass. Authors: S. Komives, N. Lucas, and Tim McMahon.

This book, authored by three experienced student service practitioners and professors, is an excellent reference for student activities staff who are mentoring student leaders of campus organizations. It is also used as a text for students in undergraduate leadership classes.
